For 20 years Laurie was general counsel for a number of major financial institutions with global responsibilities for legal and compliance matters based in London. He was voted Global General Counsel of the Year by Legal Business in 2003. Laurie then worked for 4 years in the leisure sector after co -leading a MBO in the leisure sector in 2004. Since then he has pursued a portfolio career, including establishing a coaching and mentoring business focusing on the legal profession.  He is a qualified CEDR mediator.

An experienced lawyer and business leader, with a range of non-executive experience.
He serves as a non-executive director of Northern Rock Bank, where he chairs the risk committee; Novae Group plc, (a Lloyds listed insurer); and Citadele Bank in Latvia on behalf of the EBRD. He is also a guest lecturer at the LSE on directors duties on financial institutions boards
He currently devotes much of his time to coaching and mentoring the legal profession.
Since 2007, Laurie has drawn on this wide experience to coach and mentor the legal profession, focusing his coaching on leadership, team building, preparing for partnership, performance improvement, relationship skills and life after partnership. His clients include solicitors and partners from Magic Circle firms, major City and national firms, legal departments in major financial institutions.
Personal
Laurie obtained his MA in Law from Oxford University and became a solicitor in 1981. He lives in London and is married with two children. His hobbies include choral singing and watching Welsh rugby.
