Rob Douglas CBE DL

Rob held several senior roles with Royal Dutch Shell including Head of International Taxation, Country CEO of Belgium, and of Italy. As well as running the operational side, both country roles involved helping manage the transition to new structures. Since leaving Shell Rob has held several senior non-exec positions in the public, private and voluntary sectors. The public sector roles have involved extensive interaction with Government ministers and officials at the most senior levels. He is currently Chairman of the UK Space Agency Steering Board and of the Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation for the Disabled.
A highly experienced board level executive and non-executive, with substantial international experience
Whilst with Shell, Rob lived and worked for periods in the Hague, Brussels and Milan. He spent considerable time in Houston, and in China and the rest of East Asia. He was heavily involved in Shell’s re-entry to the Chinese and other East Asian markets. Since leaving Shell, his consultancy has involved work in Europe, Asia-Pac, the USA and Brazil. He has worked in French, Dutch and Italian.

• Tax planning for Shell’s UK North Sea operations; • Multinational transfer pricing issues with assorted fiscal authorities • Driving forward a $6bn Petrochemical Joint Venture in China • Maintaining market leadership in Belgium whilst managing militant unions at manufacturing plants. • Improving performance in Shell’s Italian operations • Setting up a Competitive Intelligence and M & A group for Global Upstream Business. • Building relationships with local/national and international stakeholders and Governments in various Government agencies and advisory boards
Personal
Graduate of Churchill College, Cambridge. Fellow of the RSA and Member of the IoD. High Sheriff of Surrey for 2010-11 and appointed Deputy Lieutenant for Surrey 2012. Freeman of the City of London. Appointed CBE in June 2005 Honours. Rob lives in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey and is married with two adult sons. His hobbies include foreign languages, travel, walking and music.
